Everything you need to know about socially distanced garden parties in Lockdown.

Updated: Jun 3, 2020

Since launching this service to be available there has been a mixed response. From parents who are very excited about the prospect of being able to have a live show in their garden to celebrate their child’s birthday during lockdown, to parents who are concerned that it is not for them. In this blog I intend to give you the answers to the most frequently asked questions, I have had regarding socially distanced garden parties.

ARE WE EVEN ALLOWED TO HAVE A GARDEN PARTY?

In short YES. These parties are aimed for your family, and not for inviting a load of people to come to your garden to celebrate. Government guidelines say that we are allowed to meet socially in groups of six. So if you have a family of 5 I become that sixth person. The only case I can see where you could invite another child is if you are a family of two or three, in which case you could invite another child and their adult. But rules are strict, and 6 people is the maximum.

BUT, WHAT IF WE INVITE MORE THAN SIX PEOPLE? WILL YOU STILL DO THE SHOW?

No, if you have chosen to invite too many people to the party I will leave without doing the show and no refund will be given, this may seem harsh, but I must follow the guidelines myself, and I will not refund for terms and conditions being broken.

OK, WHAT WILL YOU DO IN THE CASE OF IT RAINING?

Our Great British weather is obviously problematic, it’s highly unpredictable. In the case of it raining I simply wont be able to do the party. I am not allowed to come into your house and do the show, and therefore we will have to cancel, or reschedule. In the case of cancelation a full refund will be given, straight away. I suggest not telling your child about the show, and leaving it as a little surprise for their special day, just in case of this, to avoid disappointment in the case of rain.

YOU SAY YOU CAN’T COME IN THE HOUSE, HOW WILL YOU GET INTO THE GARDEN?

As far as this goes I will only be able to perform in certain gardens, if you have a side gate I can come into your back garden. If you cordon off an area by the gate with fun birthday banners I can set up my equipment there, in the case of you not having a side gate to your garden I can perform in your front garden instead if there is a reasonable amount of room. In the case of not having either of these then I will not be able to perform a live party at your home.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU NEED THE TOILET?

It’s a valid question, and without going into too much detail, I’ve got a really strong bladder I can go for hours without needing the toilet!

HOW SAFE IS THE SHOW?

I’ve written the show entirely for this purpose. It’s an entirely different show to what I would normally do in a traditional hall party. There is loads of interaction still, but there is no getting the kids up to be helpers. It’s important that you know that I have read this www.gov.uk/guidance/working-safely-during-coronavirus-covid-19/homes and am following it very strictly. You don’t have to read it all , but it is there if you have any other concerns.

WE HAVE OLDER CHILDREN TOO WILL THEY ENJOY THE SHOW?

As I say this is a show written especially for this unique situation. I realise that although it may be for the celebration of a young child in your family, you may have teenagers and of course you’ll be watching with your children too. With this in mind I have written a show which I think really is the encapsulation of family entertainment. The Magic is REALLY magical, the comedy is universal across the board. It’s important to me that you enjoy this as much as your child does.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Across Essex the show is £125, with additional charges being made for places further afield, but not unreasonably so.

Children enjoying a zoom party

I STILL DON’T FEEL 100% COMFORTABLE WITH THIS, OR DON’T HAVE A GARDEN, BUT WOULD STILL LIKE TO CELEBRATE MY CHILD’S BIRTHDAY. WHAT CAN I DO?

I understand that not everyone will feel entirely comfortable with having a garden party yet. Covid-19 has affected everyone in different ways. I have been successfully running Zoom Parties throughout lockdown, and continue to do so going forward. They have received rave reviews.

SO IF YOU ARE DOING ZOOM PARTIES WHY ARE YOU NOW DOING GARDEN PARTIES TOO?

From a business point of view I have lost a lot due to the Covid-19 situation. It is important for me to keep my business alive and this seems like the most logical step for me. I want to carry on performing and providing parents with a safe and enjoyable party for their children, it gives me a lot of joy to provide smiles, giggles and magic. I realise it may not be for everyone, but for those who want the option I am proud to provide it safely and sensibly.

I hope this answers all your questions. Of course if you do have any other questions feel free to drop me a line info@magicfrostie.co.uk , or give me a cal on 07774838318l and I am more than happy to go through anything with you.

Thanks for reading, stay safe
